EXTRACTION

While extraction is necessary in some severe dental cases, and we can assist patients that are without a doubt in need of it, we like to consider whether or not the tooth can be preserved before making such a decision.

If preservation is not an option, our experienced specialists at Jensen Lakes Dental will ensure the tooth is removed both safely, and in a timely fashion. Detection, extraction, and replacement are all key factors in ensuring that any bone loss, shifting of the teeth, limited chewing function, and bite problems, can be entirely prevented.

There are some cases in which an extraction may be the only option. This may be necessary if the patient has:

  • Irreparable tooth damage, due to severe tooth decay
  • Severe periodontal disease
  • Impacted teeth
  • To solve issues of overcrowding

To deal with any and all of the above issues, we approach extraction in one of two ways. The two types of extractions we focus on are:

  • Surgical Extractions

Surgical extractions become necessary when the tooth is not easily accessible. If a tooth is lurking out of sight beneath the gum line, or hasn’t fully erupted, one of our experts at Jensen Lakes Dental may need to make an incision to access the problem tooth. This will ultimately help to lift the gum tissue surrounding the tooth in question, and grant easy access to it.

  • Simple Extractions

Of course, we do have a non-surgical option if the state of the affected tooth will permit it. Simple extractions can typically be performed with a standard local anesthetic, and usually apply to teeth that are already visible in the mouth, eliminating the need to make any incisions in the gum tissue.

We will always exhaust every treatment option before deciding to extract, but if we do deem tooth extraction necessary, your specialist at Jensen Lakes Dental will be able to go over, in detail, why the procedure was necessary, and where we can go from here.
