Soft Tissue Grafting for Teeth and Implants (Lecture and Hands-on Workshop)

This course is intended to provide dentists with the knowledge and training to diagnose and treat soft tissue defects, such as gingival recession, insufficient gingival thickness/height, vertical/horizontal soft tissue deficiencies, at teeth and implant sites. The participants will learn how to perform esthetic periodontal plastic surgery procedures utilizing the latest minimally invasive surgical and suturing techniques. This will be done through lectures and hands-on learning. We will be discussing the fundamentals of soft tissue grafting, microsurgical instrumentations, material selection and surgical techniques. There will also be an in-depth discussion of treatment planning, which includes case selection, treatment sequencing and selection of surgical techniques. The course will go over step-by-step of soft tissue grafting procedures and what to look for before and during surgery.

This course is intended for the participants to become familiar with the following:

  • Diagnosis and treatment planning recession defects
  • Soft tissue harvesting techniques (free gingival graft and connective tissue graft harvesting)
  • Review of soft tissue grafting materials: autografts, allografts and xenografts
  • Detailed surgical technique for free gingival graft for teeth
  • Detailed surgical technique for tunnel technique utilizing autogenous or allogenic tissue for treatment of gingival recessions
  • Rationale and treatment planning for soft tissue grafting at implant sites
  • Esthetic management of peri-implant soft tissue
  • Detailed surgical technique for free gingival graft at implant sites
  • Detailed surgical technique for connective tissue grafting at implant sites
  • Pre-op and post-op instructions
  • Management of complications during and following soft tissue grafting procedures
  • Hands-on workshop exercises on models, pig jaw

– Tuition is fully refundable one month before the start of the course less the non-refundable portion.
